Government admitted 53% equipment in BSNL’s mobile network from Chinese companies. The government has admitted that nearly 53 per cent of the equipment in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) mobile network is from two Chinese companies, ZTE and Huawei. In this case, the situation of private companies is better, because they ask for such equipment from many countries.
Minister of State for Communications gave information
About 44 per cent of the equipment (equipment and other accessories) in BSNL’s mobile network is from Chinese company ZTE and 9 per cent from equipment Huawei. Minister of State for Communications Sanjay Dhotre has given this information in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. He told that the government does not have data about Chinese telecom gear makers companies equipment.
Dhotre told the Rajya Sabha, ‘44.4 percent of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) mobile network is from ZTE and 9 percent is from Huawei. Similarly, 10 per cent of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) mobile network is from equipment from Chinese companies.
This situation of private companies
Reliance Jio Infocomm is not using any equipment of ZTE and Huawei for its services. He said that telecom companies buy telecom equipment according to their business needs and such companies have to comply with the security provisions given in the license.
Giving information about other private companies, he said that Vodafone Idea Limited uses equipment purchased from several vendors in its network and has always adhered to safety-related standards. Similarly, Bharti Airtel uses the equipment of companies of many countries like India, America, Europe, China.
Data security concerns
Significantly, there is an anti-China atmosphere in the country at this time, questions are being raised on China’s investment and products of Chinese companies. There are also many allegations of espionage and data theft in India by the devices of Chinese companies. In such a situation, the government has become very conscious. BSNL’s network is used in many government departments, so it is a very sensitive matter.
