Even if the whole time is a genius in your mind, it is difficult for normal people to make space among the people, the more it is difficult for the genius to become commonplace. Vidya Balan’s film ‘Shakuntala’, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video today, tries to say the least.

Born in Bengaluru (then Bangalore), Shankutala Devi was known as human computer not only in the country but also in the world. She recorded several records that would be difficult for anyone to break. But now, nearly seven years after her death, a film based on her life, Shakuntala Devi. And  vidya balan lead role as shakuntala Devi.

The film is a biographical drama and has tried to put many unaltered aspects of Shankutala Devi’s life in front of the audience. The film is directed by Anu Menon. While talking about starcast, it stars Vidya Balan along with Sanya Malhotra, Amit Sadh and Jeshu Sengupta.

The story of the film starts from a small village in Bengaluru, where Shankutala Devi born. From the age of 5, people start to know about this particular talent of Shakuntala. Because Shakuntala Devi’s family was very poor, her father makes her talent a source of employment. Shakuntala, who is still very small, is constantly being given a show and the same money starts to be spent at home. But just now, when Shakuntala is slowly making his identity, the tragic incident with her has happened.Her older sister succumbs to lack of money and treatment. The little Shakuntala is very sad and she starts hating her father.

Gradually, Shakuntala Devi is big and goes on to create new places. Shakuntala Devi, who is on the threshold of youth, gets ishq. But alas their love betrays them. That’s where Shakuntala Devi’s life comes in a new twist. After that, Shakuntala Devi reaches London and her talent gets new wings there. 

The film raises more than the math of math genius Shakuntala Devi as to why geniuses are not considered to be normal. Shakuntala Devi, who earns a worldwide name after arriving in London, makes a mistake in computer calculation. An IAS officer is an entry of satisfaction in her life. Shakuntala loves him and then comes to her daughter Anu (Sanya Malhotra). Shakuntala and Santosh are separated and stay with the anu maa. 

The film shows a lot of mallodrama. In the end, the filmmaker is looking to try to establish the real life pictures of Shankulata Devi. At the same time, the film also talks a lot about women’s rights. 

VERDICT

It is difficult for any director to get a personality of such a great status in a 2-hour and 10-minute film. But still the film has tried to cover most of the important aspects of his life. This is what the filmmaker’s effort takes it to fastforward mode. Sometimes you will feel how quickly the third events are changing after watching the film. 

Shakuntala Devi is a light hearted funny movie. In the film, you will find all the qualities you find in one Hindi feature films. The film also makes you laugh, cry, and give you a different view of life. 

Vidya Balan has made a tremendous comeback onscreen. She is seen to be fully coloured in shakuntala devi’s character. Whether it’s their makeup or the trick shield, Vidya has done a great job on all parameters.
