RP Singh: MS Dhoni not getting chance in Team India only then decided to retire
Former fast bowler RP Singh, who was an important part of the team that won the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup under Dhoni’s captaincy, has said his mind. RP may have given his opinion on what could be the reason behind the retirement of the former captain. He believes that Dhoni was not getting much batting opportunities for a long time and he was not able to finish the match like before. All these reasons made him decide to retire.
Talking to RP from Cricket.com, he said, “It didn’t happen at all. He was a very big T20 player and was looking forward to the big tournament. Age and fitness also played a big role in his decision. If you Excluding the IPL, playing for India, he hardly got a chance to show batting in the last 12 to 15 months in ODIs.
“He wanted to bat at number four in the World Cup played in 2019 but could not do so due to team management and he had to bat in the lower order. He hardly got a chance to bat before the semifinal match. And was not able to finish the match the way he used to earlier. Perhaps this also indicated to him that he was now moving to his last stop and he had to decide his future.
