Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has reached Moscow, Russia’s capital, to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) foreign ministers meeting. S. Jaishankar has arrived in Russia on a four-day tour. Recently, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Russia to participate in the meeting of the Defense Ministers of SCO. He also met the Chinese Defense Minister in the capital Moscow.
S Jaishankar arrives Russia for SCO meeting
S. Jaishankar will attend the SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting during the Moscow visit. This will be the third meeting of Foreign Ministers, in which India will participate as a full member of the SCO. The foreign minister will participate in the meetings of the SCO on 9 and 10 September. Apart from the SCO meeting, S Jaishankar can also have a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
Earlier on Friday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had a two-hour meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wei Fenghe on the sidelines of the SCO’s defense ministers meeting. This meeting of the leaders of the two countries took place at a time when there is a situation of tension on the LAC. This was the first high-level meeting between the two sides after tensions rose in eastern Ladakh in early May. However, military level talks have been held to reduce tension.
Before reaching Russia, S Jaishankar held talks with his Iranian counterpart Jawad Zarif in Tehran on Tuesday to discuss various aspects of bilateral relations and regional development. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also held talks with his Iranian counterpart in Tehran while returning from Moscow.
