Will WhatsApp be banned in India after new guidelines? Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has released a guideline for social media companies during a press conference. Actually it is about bringing regulation on social media.
The minister has counted several points, one of which is that if someone is cheating on social media, then the company should find out their origins. But WhatsApp says that it cannot do this.
WhatsApp also said long ago that because of end to end encryption, we cannot find out who has sent the message from where and where. Earlier too, such a demand was made by the government. But this time it is not a demand, but a guideline. What will happen if WhatsApp refuses to follow this guideline? WhatsApp to be banned?
WhatsApp has already made it clear that what is the origin of a message cannot be found on WhatsApp. In such a situation, what if the WhatsApp guideline is not accepted now? Will it be banned in India?
For the time being, we have asked for a statement regarding this guideline from WhatsApp and we will update as soon as the statement is received.
Not possible because of end to end encryption
Social media company Facebook says its platform is that due to end to end encryption, it is difficult to trace the origin of people.
WhatsApp go viral. There are some messages that cause riots. In such a situation, it is difficult for companies using end to end encryption to find out where the message originated.
WhatsApp has also refused before
WhatsApp has argued that because of end to end encryption chat in WhatsApp, it is not possible to find out who is the originator of the message.
This is not the first time that such is being said from India. Earlier too, it was said by a government that WhatsApp should create a tool to find out who the originator is. Where was the message generated from?
WhatsApp had then replied that it is not possible to do so. WhatsApp had said that if this is done, then the Sol of WhatsApp will end and the feature of WhatsApp will not exist. WhatsApp also said that if done, it will be messing with the privacy of WhatsApp users.
In simple words, about end to end encryption, it is an encryption major, due to which no third person or agency message other than the sender and receiver can be seen. It is not possible to trace the origin of the message in end to end encryption.
